“Where should we go wine tasting in Sardinia?” is one of the most frequently asked questions I get from friends, family, and people on social media. As a Sardinian resident married to a winemaker with lots of winemaker friends on the island, it’s safe to say I have the inside scoop on Sardinian wineries! I wanted to put together an official guide to wine tasting in Sardinia to help you have the best wine travel experience while there. Read on for helpful tips and must visit wineries in each region of the island based on the vibe that’s right for you.

A Few Tips to Help You Have the Best Wine Tasting Experience

First, let’s get some general Sardinian wine tasting tips out of the way to help you have the best time ever.

  1. Make Reservations: Book your tasting in advance, even for small wineries, to ensure they’re prepared to host you. Use WhatsApp to communicate with wineries.

  2. Language: Not all wineries have English-speaking staff, so request an English-speaking experience when reserving to understand what’s available.

  3. Transportation: Arrange a designated driver or hire one to navigate Sardinia’s winding roads safely.

  4. Choose Your Experience: Smaller wineries offer intimate, authentic visits, while larger ones provide more structured, familiar wine-tasting experiences and tours.

Northwest Sardinia Wineries

There are a lot of wineries to explore around Sassari and Alghero in Northwest Sardinia. You’ll also find several smaller, family-owned wineries in places like Ussini, Ittiri, Tissi, and Ossi.

Main Grape Varieties: Cannonau, Vermentino, Cagnulari, Torbato, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Soils: vary widely from Dolomitic limestone to volcanic, rocky to sandy.
